Whether you’re selling a luxury home in Baton Rouge or a cozy condo in Central, LA, your real estate agent is going to talk to you about the importance of home staging in every room (including the closets and the living room).
So where do you start?
How to Stage a Dining Room
First things first: Make sure there’s plenty of light in the room. You don’t want buyers to compare your dining room to a cave; nobody wants to eat in a cave, much less gather there. Hang a mirror opposite a wall of windows to maximize natural light and put a lamp or two on your sideboard to give your dining room a special glow.
Update Your Dining Room
If your fixtures or outlet covers are dated, replace them. You’ll see the return at the closing table.
Promote Good Traffic Flow
Take out the leaves from your table to increase the walking space around it. If you have a small space, it’s okay to push your table against a wall, as long as the room still has a clearly defined purpose (and its purposes are breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
Create a Focal Point
Put a large vase filled with fresh flowers in the center of your dining table, and if you can, add colorful artwork on the walls.
Don’t Overdo It
You don’t have to set your table with fine china. If you overdo it, buyers could think it’s too “fancy” for their families—and that’s the last thing you want.
